Getting the internet going on linux is a nightmare, especially if its over wifi!! Acpi and Apm do not work in most distros!! Having a working Synaptic touchpad is a hit or miss in ubuntu. I could go on and on.DougC, I never said linux is bad and I don't understand why you'd assume I did. All I asked is when it will be fixed. I'm not the only one with problems. The problems I mentioned that need fixing were documented in linux journal magazine and on numerous websites.scorpion, The kernel is the same regardless of the distro and the desktops are as well. Only difference between distros is the cosmetic stuff, look and feel.Tracy L, umm i'm not a newbie.rf186, imcomnpatibility is not imperfection its poor design and engineering.

its a evolving "product" like most other products, if you think its so bad I would recommand that you try vista and you may find its not so bad.I use centos and fedora and have no problems with setting up wifi or with my touchpad, so maybe you could try thoes distros?dougcpsas I am sure you are aware new kernals are made available on a regular basis, so maybe your issues are already resolved

Unless some one comes with a common flavour of linux, people won't develop applications that are of good quality. Every1 has to put some effort to enhance user-friendlines. Having too many flavours of linux is the big problem.

What a stupid question, it isn't broken. When will Windows be fixed? equally stupid. No OS is perfect, some are better than others, but it all boils down to personal preference, and yes there are trade-offs, but neither Windows, Linux or Mac is broken.Getting your wifi card connected (if it isn't automatically configured) is a fairly simple procedure completed in a few clicks. Visit the Ubuntu forum for a short tutorial on how to do this (and many other things).Ubuntu isn't like Windows (and it isn't trying to be) it's a totally different OS, just like switching from a PC to a Mac, you'll have to get used to OS X.Get over the learning curve (it doesn't take long), once you make it that far. There's no turning back. I know it's a little frustrating at first but it's doesn't take long to start feeling quite comfortable with Ubuntu.
