You can use a Linux CD and, as you would with Windows, just format over XP and then install your distro. You could wipe the drive first with DBan or KillDisk, or even use GParted to eliminate an XP partition, but none of those steps are really necessary.

Though I love Apple, I'd have to go with Linux because it's basicly like Apple, though it's free coded...

But with Apple you have to get an apple comp, and then the sofware is quite costly, so it's a no brainer!
