Funny, I thought that did work with Ubuntu. Does it need firmware?
The Intel cards are easy to get running. I assume this is a mini PCI card on a laptop motherboard? The Netgear cardbus cards also work. Just about the easiest distro to get working is PCLinuxOS but OpenSUSE is not far behind.

Intel is as said a safe bet, I'm also running an Atheros 5005 wifi card, also no problem.
