Default Microsoft Access on shared drive

Hi, i have a windows 2003 server with shared, hidden folders for users. They connect via a logon script. The problem is that when a user opens any access 2003 database it opens access but not the database, it slows the pc down, they lose their link with the server and in most cases the server will freeze and need rebooted. the locking file shows when trying to open, if that would have anything to do with it. It is very frustrating. I have tried a different network switch but the same result occurs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

can you monitor the network connection and see how much traffic is passing between server and PC?

Are you using any firewall software?

I assume this is what you are trying to do

It is only the actual DB file that is on the server, not a database server?
