| Hi I hate how ms word 2007 starts with Normal(which seems to be basicly double space). I want it to be by default no spacing. I have searched around and found that I can change the style to 2003 but I like everything else of 2007 so I don't want to go this option. I also found on this forum this option: (you need to un-hide hidden folders first) go to Windows Explorer and open the normal.dotm file located here: C:\Documents and Settings\[USER NAME]\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates right clicked the file and chose open, it will opened in Word as a blank document, then click the No Spacing icon then click save, thats it ! Word 2007 now opens with no spacing as default When I went to programs-ms office - word and opened it up it defaulted to ms no spacing(what I wanted). However if I go to my desktop and right click-new and make a new ms word document this way it does not put no spacing as the default it goes back to normal. Why is this happening? | You have found the solution to your question. You have to edit the template and then save it. That is the template that Microsoft Word opens each time you start it. You can also edit that template in any other way you wish. For example, changing the default font or adding a header you type on every document you create. This will make it so whenever you open Microsoft Word by clicking on the icon that template will be loaded. I just tried right clicking on the desktop and making a new Word Document. I got the same thing as you. I believe that the reason for this is that no template is loaded initially when you do this. This is because you do not open Word. But because you save the file before you open Word no template is assigned to it and it just uses a blank template that is uneditable. ** The next time you open the Word document word does not apply a template to it because if it applied a template to it it would delete everything else in it. This would not matter in this particular case because you have not changed the document at all but Word is not able to realise that. So basically the bottom line is just modify the template you mentioned in your post to how you like it and then open Word in the normal way to make a new document. I cannot see any reason why you would want to make a new document by right clicking on the desktop.... ** I am going to try and find out if this template is editable. I will ask a Word expert.
