Default Open Office

Hi all,

I currently use open office for all my word processing but have just suffered a strange problem. I recieved an e-mail with an attatchment which I had requested. The attatchment was a lesson plan in word format. I modified the plan to suit my own needs and continually saved it as I was doing this. At around the 12th modification I noticed that it was being saved in a folder I did not recognise. It was called INOBFHSL, certainly not a folder I have created as it contains lots of very large and important files etc. Thought nothing of it. Next day when I go to open file in open office it goes straight to INOBFHSL and allows me to open the last modification I did. Today I go to open file in O.O and it goes to My Documents where although there is the 12th mod I did on the document it asks for a filter in order to open it. There are around 100 of these listed and none will open the file. After many hours of trying I cannot locate the folder INOBFHSL, google returns no results and it would appear that it doesnt exist. I know it does.
Has any one heard of such a folder and does any one know how I can gain access to it? Because when I am in it I can open the file without any problem.

Many Thanks,

Keith.

How very strange. It is even more strange that Google has absolutely no listings for that folder name.

Have your tried opening Windows Search and typing in the name of what you actually called your lesson plan? Or even just parts of the name.

If you find it, open it up and then save it somewhere else, where you know where it is, like your My Documents or Desktop.

Could it be hidden.

In a folder click on Tools - Folder Options - View

Click the radio button next to Show Hidden Files and Folders.

have you tried updating to the latest version of open office i believe its 2.4 if you have try leaveing a comment in their forum. Also run a registry clean that may solve it. failing that just do what i do and reinstall everything including windows from scratch.

If you opened the attachment and did not issue a Save as... then it will have been placed in a temporary area. I guess that eventually the temporary file was deleted, hence the reversion to the default location, My Documents. The changes you made will have been lost.

Yep, you are quite right. It was my fault for not paying attention to the correct format........
If I choose the correct format it saves with very little difference to the document and can easily be altered and of course reopened..
The only other bug I have is the spell checker which will default to american english from time to time depending on the type of document I have saved and will not allow me to default to english uk. Other than that I think it's rather good for free.

Many Thanks,

Keith.
