I downloaded this program that bears many of the tools you find in MSWord and I love it! The price is right too....Free. No, I don't own the site and this is not intended as spam, but if you need a good tool without paying the Microsoft prices I really suggest you check this out.

That is very true Sage and I also realise you are not spamming. :)
In fact I shall put it in our Downloads section, thanks for reminding me.

Yes, I just downloaded this and it is awesome. It sure beats paying for MSWord that's for sure. I highly recommend it. I found out about it because I needed it for my job that I do and have had no problems with it.

I downloaded it a few months ago, and have been very impressed. I'm glad that it is just so...usable, for lack of a better description.

That sounds great. I happen to have Word from the suite that my wife got for a very cheap price a few years ago from an incentive at work. Otherwise I'd be all over it too.

Does this program open Word documents?

I use Open Office on one of my computers. The only problem I have ever had has been opening a heavily formated Open Office document in Word. There were some spacing issues, but nothing serious. Definitely worth the price :)

Does this program open Word documents?

It saves and opens several formats, and has .doc for 95, 97, as well as html, xml, rtf, starwriter, pocketword, and txt as one of the options.

It's like a swiss army knife.

I have used the program on and off for three or four years now. I just don't get comfortable with it but it is a better alternative for Office. As you say you can't beat the price.

Never used this myself although a number of people have recommended it to me.

Might have to have a look after reading this, nice one guys. :)

Only one problem with it, only one. and that is its size. As compared to Microsoft Word editions which used to come in 1 CD before Office 2007, Open Office comes in a size of GBs. Am I wrong?

In my personal experience i had some problems with it. Although like you say, when its free how can you really complain?

Although if you're that bothered we all know there are many ways to get office for free.

I think you are wrong mate.
I had a look in my Add and Remove Programmes folder. That has Open Office as being 278MB.
Or does that prove you right ??

I've been using OOo for years, I've forgotten how long now. As someone said, it's like a Swiss Army Knife. It'll open (and save in) all sorts of file types, all the equivalent M$ Office file types going back several generations, plus several others.

I'm a long distance truck driver, so I don't really need a full office suite, not for my job anyway. On the occasions that I do want an office type programme I'm sure I could get by on what comes with Windows, but why muck about getting by? Open Office is there, to do what I need to do, at an unbeatable price.
