I need to open MS Word files that people send me and my resume is in Word also. I thought "Open Office" would work just the same but now I hear it doesn't really work.
I happen to have Office 95, brand new in shrink wrap because I couldn't get rid of it. Now I wonder, can't I just install it and the problem would be solved? |

Yea, should install and work fine on XP, however you might have problems with the files depending on what format people send them to you in, if they send them to you in a Microsoft word document from a version of Word newer than 95, they won't open. However Open office should open them fine for you.

open office does work, its just kinda a bit different to use. you could compare it to going from office 2003, to 2007 i guess.

Office 95 will install files to the system directory rather than the system32 directory.

Once you have run the installation, office will create the system directory within the windows directory and put it's files there. Copy them manually to the system32 directory and it should work fine. My System: Glowbox
