Hi all,

I'm currently writing a piece of work that has to be a specific word count excluding bibliography/appendix, etc...

Is there anyway I can tell word not to include certain pages or sections when doing the wordcount? It's really iritating having word count the words in tables, my bibliography, etc...

I'm having to manually select each section I want counted at the moment which as I am sure you can imagine takes a long time.

Thanks.

Definitely there is, it involves writing a macro and specifying the counting requirement.

Snowblind,
Did you ever work this problem out?

I'm having the same issue.

Kind Regards

It's discussed at http://www.techtalkz.com/microsoft-o...lar-style.html - Jay Freedman's post goes to the heart of what's needed. If the document rigorously uses styles to distinguish text function then clicking a button to get the total word count for your own desired subset of styles is just a matter of setting up the count macro to include them. If the document isn't distinguished that way then it would need re-thinking.

I spent years trying to talk people into using styles in Word instead of format controls and I never got anywhere.

snowblind, by the look of it, is long gone.

That, oddly enough, was the initial definition of the problem: "I'm having to manually select each section I want counted at the moment which as I am sure you can imagine takes a long time.".

Ah, cheers for that Spot!! My mum'll be over the moon. She's been nagging at me about if there was any way of doing this, no doubt I'll find it coming in handy too!
