i know we here at computer juice have been using 3d mark for a while now, but i think i may have stumbled on a better idea. how about this
http://www.passmark.com/products/pt.htm

it is much more throughout and tests everything in a PC. and the best part is how easy it would make comparing our computer to each other here on the forum! you can save your results and upload it to a place like www.filefront.com or something like that and then others can download it and use it directly to compare their PC to someone elses on the forum. it would look like this
http://www.filefront.com/14021597/PerformanceTest.gif
very easy to compare. and it does so many tests and i think its optimized for dual and quad core CPU's. and at the end it tells you how many flops the computer produces just a thought that i think would be fun for the forums to have

I must admit I find the current benchmark threads and results threads quite confusing.

One central test and one results thread would be better imo, whether using this or 3dmark, although with 3dmark there are many versions so it's difficult.

What are your thoughts Social? As you manage the current setup very well, do you think this would be better, or can you streamline the current one?

Futuremark is world renowned for its benchmarks, I think they have a PCMark version too, which is basically the same as the OP mentioned

Passmark test your computers performance overall but 3DMark is for 3D performance only, completely different benchmarks really
I will start a thread with Passmark if you like though cheespuff so it can be managed

Edit:

I Prepose a More Fair, Accurate
3Dmark is extremely accurate which makes it fair.
I can run the test over and over a get the same score over and over give or take a point or two, that shows accuracy.

Edit 2:
Just noticed after installing it too that its only a evaluation copy you get and have to buy after 30days

Edit 3: Also its not very accurate at all, the graph below shows a GTX275 beating nearly every card available, including the GTX295 and 4870x2! lol

hmm...that is quite odd. but 3dmark has never really been consistent with me. its always 100-400 points different for me! each time! that is odd thought with the GPU problem. wonder if there is a reason for that.
ya know what. those cards may have been SLI'd or something. could explain it dont ya think?

To get any benchmark accurately you have to know how, starting your computer and running any kind of benchmark isn't going to give you a consistent results

And is there a free version of Passmark available or will people have to buy it?
