Default No Edit facility on posts ?

Hi there

I have placed an erroneous link by mistake on one of my posts, but there does not appear to be the usual EDIT button at the bottom of the message. I therefore seem to have no way of removing it and replacing it with the correct link ! I'm probably doing something stupid somewhere, but on all the other forums I use there is always an edit button to allow one to fix simple mistakes or spelling errors etc !

Best regards
Richard

The edit function is only available for a short time.

The post you are talking about is still in moderation. I will approve it now.

It is best to add a new reply addressing the issue as someone may have already read the post and may not realize you edited it.

HI evilfantasy

Thanks for replying so quickly. Re your comment:

The edit function is only available for a short time.
Why is that precisely ? I can honestly say that I've never experienced this 'oddity' on all the other forums I participate in ! Just curious to learn what the precise purpose is, as I often spot silly typos I've made and need any easy method of correcting them, because my 'hunt and peck' typing skills are somewhat lacking a lot of the time....LOL !

Best regards
Richard

You can edit a post up to 15 minutes after submitting it.

The time limit is (I think) mainly due to what I said about editing.

If someone already read the post, they in most cases will not realize you edited it. By adding a new post they are then given notice via email that there is a new reply. Therefore alerting them to the updated information.

Hope this helps.

LOL, the old... "other forums don't do it".

Every forum I use does.

And it is there to combat spam.

We manually check every post here and it would be too easy for a spammer to post normally then come back a few days later and edit their post to contain spam, it would then of already been checked and would likely slip through the net.
