Shouldn't make any odds, but just in case I'm talking Ultra High Frequency units here.

I read some info recently that conflicted with my knowledge (whether right or wrong)

And what I need confirming if possible is that a 2-Way radio means 2 way because it can both transmit and receive, two functions.

Rather than what I read that it is called 2-Way because on two radio operators can be on the same channel, which surely is not correct? There would be very little use of such a unit.

I need this confirmed as I was about to place an order for a few radios, and I'll need more than just 2 live at once!

Not exactly sure what your asking here, but I can say this:

It is possible for many radio operators to be on the same “channel” at the same time, as a channel is only a numeric designation for a certain frequency.

For instance, channel 19 on the CB radio (Citizens Band) is in the 10 meter (wavelength) range at 27.185mhz. At any given time there are dozens of truckers using this one frequency (usually trying to talk over each other )

If you are thinking of ordering UHF radios (300 MHz to 3 Ghz) that utilize channels, you can buy as many as you want, and rest assured all can be used at once. You will also be able to hear traffic from anyone else communicating (nearby) who has the equipment to transmit in this range.

On the flip side, they can hear whatever you say also (as well as anyone with a scanner capable of receiving these frequencies).

I hope this cleared things up a little.
