It can be deadly. Yes they are very harmful. the crappy thing is is that you can't remove it. You have to completely knock the wall down and replace it.

Black molds are very toxic, especailly if you are touching it, face to face with it, disturbing it. If you were to touch it, it would send out millions of little spores that help it to grow, kinda like a dandillion when it turns all white and fluffy. As you do this whether you know it or not, you breath it in. Depending on the severity of the area it can be cleaned by a professional ONLY. But if it is a huge amount aprox. 2ft by 2ft then the area will need to be removed/replaced. GL.

I had a friend who had the black mold in her house and her baby son got really sick from it. He started bleeding inside his lungs. He almost died. Thank goodness he is better now but he might have to be on steriods for a long time to come.

All molds in mass quantity are harmful, I think. Each time you breathe you inhale thousands of little spores that can really irritate your lungs.

You might not have to take a wall out. But you will have to saturate the area with a bleaching solution. There are paint bases that are made specifically for mold eradication. Once you bleach and scrub, apply the paint base. Before you do all that, though, find out the source of the mold and get that taken care of. Otherwise the problem could return.

Bear in mind where the mold occurs, as problems may arise with a bad damp proof course or bad rendering or loose pointing.
Blocked guttering can cause problems also.

I never knew that there was a paint that would help with this problem. Of course the best thing like the above poster said is to find out what is causeing the mold.
