b. Control total calories. No matter how many or what type of calories you consume, if it exceeds what your body burns it is stored as fat...

Control calories from fat and here is why:Although total calories are important, carbs and proteins have nutrient specific functions in the human body. As a result, cutting calories indiscriminately can potentially cut into what is needed, which will put the body into starvation mode. Although some fats (omega 3's & 6's) have specific cellular functions, the amounts are very small and any extra becomes empty calories.Essentially, if someone eats poorly enough, it is actually possible to provide an excess of one caloric nutrient while being deficient in another caloric nutrient. This will have the effect of providing empty calories while simultaneously starving himself. It is like servicing the oil in your car when it is out of gas (it is still out of gas). Also, when excess carbs or proteins are consumed, the body will metabolize what it can before the rest is converted to fat. On the other hand, ingested fats that have more than 12 carbons in the molecule (most ingested fats) are stored first before any is burned. Here is a link to more info.http://www.spartafit.com/articles/re...0calories.html

I say a, b, and c. You need to control calories overall, but it won't do you any good if you carbo-load all the time, or eat mostly protein. You need a balance between protein, fat, and carb-based calories to be healthy.

Losing body fat is fairly simple... eat less or burn off those calories via exercise.

That's pretty poor advice, not eating for 7 days is very bad for you.
