I think this oughtta be closed?

Before it get's much more personal..

The Gurkhas are edging toward better justice anyway, and if they get it, no doubt another off-topic thread wil be created to celebrate.

For the record though guys I can see both your points - Bubba, I can see you would doubt it, but then if he does have it, it's kinda harsh. Also your paste from Mayo Clinic says about diabetes, which I'm sure I've read somewhere that cheesepuff has, I may be wrong.

And on the otherhand, cheesepuff, if you really do live with that then I'm sorry for you, but it is true what Bubba say about pain. If you want badly enough to not feel something, you won't. You feel you're fear. After all, it's only chemicals in you're brain and nervous system (I forget the exact initials for it), just like laughing is - however funny something is, you can always not laugh, say if someones tickling you and you're Sergeant Major is standing directly in frnot of you.

Yet it works in exactly the same way.

Anyhow, I'm not taking sides here at all, merely providing a third person perspective.

Let's give the Gurkha's the repsect they deserve, in this thread, at the very least.

Personal matters are being brought into this discussion, there are clearly strong feelings being expressed, and it is probably best not to have this argument here. I see both points of view, yes I agree that the disease you talk of Cheesepuff is exceptionally nasty, but equally Bubba having worked in the armed forces and probably see close mates get killed, well that's probably pretty bad pain as well, yet their are still people serving our countries for our benefit.

Please do not see this as me taking sides. I am not.

Please do no post anymore about this disease. Any other posts will just be deleted and the thread locked.

However feel free to continue the discussion of said Ghurkas. Just don't let it get personal.

That's ok, you have nothing to be sorry about, I shouldn't have said that. My bad. I don't know what I was thinking. I obviously wasn't.

I am sincerely sorry.

EDIT: Sorry server, I saw your reply AFTER I made this one. Definitely not trying to continue this, but certainly you can see that a "public" mistake was made and an equally "public" apology was necessary. It's actually quite apropos considering that it a matter of honor and the Gurkha's are all about honor..........

Well Ive just had an email from Joanna Lumley!

I guess all who signed recieved the same. No mention of the 1997 date as mentioned above though....

Quote:
At midday today, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith made the announcement to the House of Commons that the Gurkha Justice Campaign have been fighting for for years. All ex-Gurkhas who have served more than 4 years in the British Army will have the right to settle in the UK if they wish.

After such a long fight, with huge ups and downs, this is a superb announcement.

We simply would not have won this fight without the massive, overwhelming support of all those who have supported our campaign. To the hundreds of thousands of people who have signed Gurkha Justice petitions, lobbied their MP, campaigned, attended rallies and marches - thank you so much to you all. This is your victory. It would not have happened without you.

The Government has now responded to that campaign after court cases, votes in Parliament, a huge media campaign and, most importantly, massive public support. I am delighted, and humbled, at what has been achieved by our remarkable team.

The whole campaign has been based on the belief that those who have fought and been prepared to die for our country should have the the right to live in our country. We owe them a debt of honour - a debt that will now be paid.

With warmest good wishes,

Joanna

hmmm time to change my sig........

EDIT: Looks like the web page for gurkha justice shows the same information as the email

I thought four years was an odd number at first, but I guess the thinking is that the initial contract sign up type jobby is for 3 years, so they want to make it so that it's the more dedicated ones, that stayed in longer than they have too.

That's the best reason I can think of anyway. 'Tis jolly good news though
