Default which is better for home theater - dvd with

built-in amp or separate dvd player and amp? I am planning to buy a home theater package and want to choose between Yamaha YHT-175 and Samsung XT-HQ100. Yamaha is only the amp and I need to buy a dvd player separately. Samsung is dvd with built-in amp.

hello there, for me you better not have the built in amp with the DVD for your home theater because if it is say so, it is another special feature of that said DVD which is higher in price, however, there advantage is that they are always compatible because they are design to be together in terms of performing, in contrary, if you are going to purchase a non built in DVD and amp, you can save some $$$ and you can choose the wattage of your choice JUST make sure that some expert technician will assemble or connect it for you to avoid incompatibility.

I sold both for quite a few years and I would not consider buying the Samsung system with the DVD player built into the receiver. Not only does this inevitably cause difficult service/repair questions for you, these systems are almost always lower in quality. The Yamaha system is going to give you better sound and last longer. It will also give you greater flexibility over the years. I recommend a Sony DVD player to go with it. No DVD players are perfect but I think Sony makes the best ones for the money. One question you do not raise is the difference in quality between the speakers in those systems. The YHT series speakers are not "high end" speakers but they will sound better than those that come with the Samsung system and I predict they will also last longer. The YHT subwoofer will probably far outperform the Samsung sub. No contest there.

Having seperate components is the way to go all the time. When you have a combo unit like this it usually comes with there speaker system and inferior connection capabilities.I myself would look at a nice Denon or Harmon/Kardon ampand some nice speakers unless you have them alreadyKlipsch or Nuance are nice so are Polk Audio or Mirage. Then pair it up with a new Panasonic HDMI Dvd player this way if you already have the Big Screen HDMI compatible better picture and sound just plug in but if you don't when you upgrade the TV you already have the most recent DVD player upgrade.Good Luck Shopping P.S. Seperate amp, better power, bigger speakers.

Want the best?
Choose THX authorised equipment.
Never heard of it?
THX was the sound structure gear used on Star Wars and umpteen other films since.

Yea i'd always get seperate, Theres a huge difference between a low-end amp and a high-end amp but a DVD player is a DVD player, one may have more functions or shiny display but it will still play the films and play the sound just as well as others. It's what you use to display the pictures and amplify and listen to the sound. Whats more, with an amp you can plug everything that makes noise into it and then you dont have different speakers for different things and you'll always have the quality sound (as long as you splash out on the amp) As I said earlier, unlike DVD players, you cant just buy a cheap amp and expect sound quality. I reccomend a Bose, Yamaha, Denon or Cambridge Audio. I also reccomend 'Richer Sounds' Because, unlike your usual chain, they have excelent training and very good customer service. I know I sound like a spammer now!! I just appreciate quality sound!
