Most businesses hire at 18 because that is the age that most people graduate high school (a common requirement for a job), but more so because it is also the legal age of adulthood.Jobs available for individuals under the age of 18 are usually entry level, low income, service industry jobs; like fast food or waitressing.A good job for someone your age is one in which you are paid out of pocket (you don't pay taxes). Such as mowing lawns, running errands, etc... for someone you know or someone in your family. With Summer approaching take a life-guarding certification class. Lifeguards are usually payed above minimum wage and while the work is monotonous it is much easier than fast food or pulling weeds.Hope this helps.

Yes there are many especially in summer. You may need a work permit. Ask at your school or state labor dept. Here are a few possibilities - be a mother's helper (fancy word for this au pair) that means caring for kids whether or not mom is home, helping with basic housework, maybe a little yard work. Sometimes it means traveling with a family. Since it would be at the people's homes check their references and be sure this is a safe decent place to be juts like you might a new family for whom you were going to baby-sit. Babysitting is also a possibility not just for a family but at a resort setting if one is near you, or at any place adults go and need someone to watch their kids while they do what they came there to do. If there are time share places in your area ask about them paying you to watch kids while parents go to sales presentation and also ask about being put on a list of sitters if visiting parents want to go out or have some grown ups only time. Resorts may also need a kiddy pool lifeguard. This is less a matter of life saving techniques or swimming skill than of making sure the kids are safe since the pool will probably not be over your knees but you do need to know CPR and do need a cool head. Our foster daughter spent many summers as a water slide attendant. She loved it.Some landscaping and gardening places will hire teens. You probably have to be 18 to use mowers etc but you can weed, plant, spread hay , etc. You can also do yard work for neighbors or other individual families. Some eating places will hire young teens to clean tables, wash dishes etc. A few will train you to wait on tables too or take fast food orders. If a friend of your family has any business that doesn't require using machinery ask if they will hire you for the summer to replace ppl on vacation. That could be answering phone, data entry, greeting customers, ringing up sales, whatever is needed. Many companies that set appointments or sell on the phone hire young teens and can be a very fun place to work. Some nonprofits also hire teens for fund raising. Be sure what you will be doing is straight and honest. Some camps will hire junior counselors as young as 14-16.If there is something you really like maybe radio, TV, newspaper, graphics, art, music, sewing, crafts, whatever call places that do that and ask about summer internships or jobs that will let you learn more about it and make contacts in that line of work.Call your state labor dept or ask your guidance counselor at school and ask about summer youth employment programs and internships. Ask older friends what sort of jobs they had and what they liked and didn't like about them.

McDonalds and places like that, generally hire teens during the summer. Or possibly clothing or music stores. That's were I generally see teens working.

when I was 13-15 I had a paperround before school, Then at 15 I got a job waiting tables at a local hotel (over Xmas they're desperate for staff 'cos the Xmas partys) And at 16 I got another waiter job at another local hotel, at 17 - Marshall and Quad mechanic (cash in hand) at a Paintball site, then a delivery boy for a pizza place (wouldnt reccomend it!). You'll find something but dont have too high standards, chances are it will be a crap job (like most) but if you get paid tis all that matters.

P.s. Welcome to the forum everyone!!! Lots of first posts in here!

I did festival work (sweet vans, burgers etc...) when i was 15/16, good way to see festivals and the like for free. Good pay and excellent fun.
