Default Can regular channels be improved on a HDTV?

I just recently purchased an HDTV that plays Blu-ray disks and PS3 beautifully. I upgraded to HD cable, using an HDMI connector and most of the high definition channels come in pretty good (some better than others). But the "standard - digital channels look like garbage! They are blurred and pixelated all over the place. My old "tube TV" plays the same channels twice as good! What gives???!!!!Am I alone in this problem? Is it my cable company (Time Warner)? Is sattelite better? Can something be added or fixed to improve it? Please don't tell me that the clear picture just "shows" the defects more - That is not the case - This TV "creates" the defects - It is FAR worse than the old tube TV! There must be a solution. Everyone with a HDTV can't possibly accept this blurred crap after forking out thousands of dollars on a TV that is supposed to be an improvement over their old one, can they???

HDTV only works if you are inputting an HD signal.

HD is currently only available with SKY and Cable (Only some special channels)

Basically there's no point having HDTV just for TV as its not supported.

Its really only any good for DVD/Consoles at the moment.

If they show the program in HD then you will. Otherwise not.

We recently got HDTV from DirecTv, and the channels are NOT better. The shows in HD ARE much better, but the regular channels seem to be worse. Our old tv in the bedroom looks better than the good tv with the HD box in the living room...
