I assume by your icon flag that you are from Great Britain and as such English is your mother tongue. Old people like me read job applications and we neither "get" nor care about text messaging lingo, ESPECIALLY on a job application. I say this as a tip, not as a criticism to your posting style here. If this doesn't apply to you then ignore it lol, don't get mad. If, however, it DOES apply, then take my message to heart.

I too was young once, (seems like a LONG time ago), and made more than my share of mistakes. I still make them. On job applications be professional, the tight asses reading them will throw them out and you will never get a foot in the door if you aren't. Good luck. LOL I'm in the same boat as you, looking for a computer hardware job as an old person.

I re read your original post. You are leaving "skool" in a few years? I don't know if you mean college or high school (I don't know what you call high school in Great Britian, sorry). ANyways, I'm assuming you mean high school. What I would suggest in that situation is exactly what you are doing. Peruse websites that have a plethora of computer hardware oriented folks on them and suck up all the knowledge you can. Keep knocking on doors (easier if you live in a big city rather than a small own) of folks who are doing what you think you may want to do. Like Dave said, you will be paid crap, but that is the nature of the beast. You will be paid for what you know and as a kid you don't know much, but whoever hires you will TEACH you much so there is the trade off. Actually you will probably get the better end of the deal in the long run as you sound like someone waiting to soak up all the knowledge you can.

Good luck.
Excellent advice +rep.

I didn't say I was rich lol.

I do ok, work the hours I want, do what I want and I don't have a boss on my case 24/7

But as puff daddy said "Mo money, mo problems"

To make money you have to spend/invest money. The more you make the more you spend to try and make more. You have to invest your profits to grow, it doesn't all go in your back pocket. Then one day you lose it all, or not. It's all a gamble and I have a few times. I'm certainly not complaining but it's not all rosy. It's very stressful and pretty unsociable too. But I wouldn't swap it for anything.

As for the gaming PC I don't play games, spend my time coding mostly and teaching myself stuff that hopefully gets me further on in life.

you should maybe do some new hardware reviews, and sell the comonents on, make a little extra, and it would be usefull for everyone on the forums, however I don't know how easy it is to get into getting sent free engineering samples.

Not easy, unless you can give the company's major exposure in return.

Real magazines get free stuff as they have a huge audience, website wise, yes you would need major traffic, 100,000's of unique visits a day.

Don't you think if these hardware reviewers sold all thier demo parts that we would have 1. no more hardware reviewers and 2. tons of chips being released ahead of street date? No non-questionable reviewer would ever do such a thing - the ones that would don't get their parts for free, and most reviewers in this position run large sites that take in much more ad money than a few parts sales would be worth.
