I don't think this is going to do much good.

A message from a software maker that aims to make the nasty software pirates feel bad for cracking their code.

I don't see how if the software knows it's a pirate serial why it then cannot act on it. I reckon it's linkbait, ie; fake story to get attention.

If more large software companies were a little more generous in their versions for home use, then I think there would be a lot less piracy.

Microsoft has the right idea, people don't and can't spend £300 of Office, but can afford £50 for the home version, which is a hell of a lot cheaper than it used to be.

But Adobe still seem to think their software is worth a million pounds, but only the big organisations can afford to pay them millions of pounds for it. For everyone else, wait.. theres Adobe Premier Elements. Great.

The truth of the matter is that the big software companies make millions from the big organisations who cannot and do not do piracy.

The versions they sell to home users make up a minuscule percentage of their total sales.

Obviously this only applies for the big software giants, the little software companies normally don't charge extortionate prices for their software, and people are happy to pay it.

I am in no way a fan of piracy, but the software companies need to think why people steal, not how they do it. Your average 14 year old web designer, photoshop expert, programmer etc (and some of them get pretty good) cannot afford to spend multiple £K on their tools.

And indirectly it benefits the software companies in the long run, because these kids have learnt how to use the software on their pirate versions, and then when they set up for real, probably do buy the real software, if they are at all serious.

Well put SG, I too do not agree with piracy, but most of the people nicking it cant afford it, that's why they steal it. So technically they are not losing that money.
