Default Debit card woes!

Both my personal and joint account debit cards have been cloned! I found out just last week before setting off to Antwerp.

As one of them is hardly ever used I assume my bank has managed to "lose" details for me. Anyway over £800 was taken off one via CoOp travel, and £100 of the other via Paypal.

We drove to Manchester airport and fortunately parking was pre-booked on a third credit card. This works well as you stick that card in the machine on entry and exit to confirm arrival and departure.

When we got to Antwerp, without a hitch via VLM, I discovered I had left the credit card behind, presumably in the alcove on the dashboard I had replaced it into after entering the car park, and in full view to anyone who might want to steal it and our car!

Thus we had to ring back and cancel the credit card. Now I had three cards in my wallet that were useless! Fortunately my wife had another debit card to our joint account so she took charge of money!

Got back on Monday to find both card and car intact! On checking my accounts I found that a further £200 had been withdrawn from our joint account via UniBet International, on a card that failed to work in Antwerp.

Today the BBC is running a report on just how common this all is. Be warned!

Oh boy, what a christmas!

Whoever did it seemed to know what my overdraft limits were too! I must set both to zero.
