p is real HD, i is up-scaled to fake real HD.

There is 720i and 1080i - 720p and 1080p, the difference between 720 and 1080 is the amount of lines on the screen.

Haha, good discussion. My dad went the farrr and BIG way for a TV (HD)
He got his friend to get a projector and so we have like a 200x300 (Idk, it's HUGE) "TV" In our family room, for speakers they're in the ceiling and go all around (surround sound) actually a pretty impressive system.

Regarding the monitor question, and some other points.

the "720" or 1080" refers to the amount of lines on the screen, from top to bottom.

So, a 24" tft at 1920x1200 can display the correct amount of lines for true HD but you'll get the black borders at the top and bottom as this screen has 1200 lines top to bottom.

A 20-22" tft at 1680x1050 or a 19" tft at 1280x1024 can't display true HD content as these resolutions don't have enough lines, but will display compressed HD content, as in 720 but again you'll get the borders.

The P refers to progressive refresh which is how a tft natively updates the screen using a DVI connection, the I refers to interlaced, which is an analogue connection.

So, a standard hd-tv, at a resolution of 1366x768 can't display true, uncompressed HD content.

A true hd-tv needs a resolution of at least ****x1080. They aren't manufactured in this resolution, due to the ratio's used (16:9 and 16:10) so you'll need the TV you purchase to have a resolution of 1920x1200 to get true hd display.
