No golden parachutes for former chiefs of mortgage giants

Sweet. I hope the same applies for the AIG execs. Funny though that at weeks end the Dow Jones is up past where it started before this happened. Insider trading?

The historic significance of that particular personal right is that in many European Countries at the time there was an "Official" religion and those not following the "official religion" underwent persecution.
Yes, but by giving these nutters that right you allow them to try to pass legislation that upholds their cranky religious views, eg, creationism, anti-Darwinism, scientology, islam. (Sorry, nutters was strong. Perhaps psychopaths was kinder.)

Plus, by giving them this freedom you deprive the atheists amongs us from arguing with them because we are then accused of depriving them of their "right".

If it is truly historical, chuck the right away!

Nutters works for me. I follow a religion, the same that most of those folks do but my translation of the text says keep your religion out of politics. They call themselves the "religious right" but most folks call them the right wing religious nutcases, which i think translates from American into English as nutters, lol.

And you have a misconception. Most legislation introduced (and passed BTW) keeping religion in this Country out of Government here is introduced by atheists. A "famous" atheist (so famous I can't remember her name lol) got mandatory school prayers banned among many other things. If you take the "right" away, it leads to a State religion. I think you have a misconception of what is going on here as far as that is concerned. Our system protects all religious beliefs, even atheism (which in and of itself is a "belief"). Darwinism is taught in schools, as a matter of fact attempts to have creationism even MENTIONED in schools have been shot down. One school system was successfully sued just for adding a sticker to their science books that said "Darwinism is a theory, there are other schools of thought about the formation of the world and universe."

Oh, and correct me if I'm wrong but is not what we call the "left" (liberals) and "right" (conservatives) in the US just the opposite in England; IE: your left are the conservatives and right are the liberals? Or am I misinformed.

Last note: So few people in this Country vote (percentagewise of the eligible voters), especially in the primaries where the final candidates are chosen, that the extreme nutcases from both sides of the aisle have an inordinate amount of power in deciding who runs, since the nutcases turn out in force. This is why we have such bad candidates. LOL we need a box to check that says, "NONE of these yo yo's, pick new people and start again."

Well that is certainly a different view of what is going on to what we get over this side of the pond! Incidentally, morning prayers are "compulsory" in the UK schools, but headmasters often ignore that at their discretion. They just lose a few brownie points when their school is ranked.

If that is really the state of affairs in the US I am surprised anyone turns to religion!

The left is labour and right conservative here BTW, with liberals taking the centre ground generally. Lately though we have had a labour PM Blair to the right of the conservative PM Thatcher, with the Liberals taking the left wing. The latter are now also drifting right.

LOL i wonder if we could do a "political" thread here without things turning ugly. Since there are so many folks from so many Countries represented here it would be interesting to hear how things are done "elsewhere," and learn the different ways different Gov'ts operate through the words of us little people.

Sorry admin for the temporary thread hijack.
