The pup my little daughter is trying to gum the ear off in my current avatar died a few years ago. I miss that damn dog. She was so sweet and gentle. We have a "new" wiener dog, (not my idea or desire), but it's just not the same. Sam, the new dog, isn't Mia, the old dog. We had Mia before we had our child. She thought our child was HER "puppy" from the day my daughter came home from the hospital, hence her patience as my child tried to eat her ear lol. I guess I like Sam, but dammit, you can't replace a dog like a light bulb anymore than you can replace anyone else you come to love. It's not Sam's fault he isn't Mia.

I don't know why I posted this except seeing that picture again made me miss my sweet little puppy, and it is CERTAINLY off topic. Am I off base here/ Do any of you folks really come to love your pets? I mean even you folks that have those nasty cats lol............ Mia was only 6 when she died. Much too young, even in dog years.

i know how you feel, i lost my dog when she was around the same age and i was devistated because i was very close to her. sorry for your loss man.

Yes, I think everyone feels the same about loved animals.

Despite the fact I regularly see farm animals go off for slaughter, or even being slaughtered at the abbatoir, I still feel a little sad about it. I guess just being around them the whole time, makes you come to know them.

Surprisingly, I do not find it difficult when I have to shoot a injured animal, I guess because I know I am doing the right thing and putting it out of its misery.

But, you know you made the best of your dogs short life, and she probably enjoyed it more.
