try this site

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTax...rk/DG_10018757

or Google 'Job seekers allowance'

from that site: "You'll get less if you have savings over £6,000. If you have savings over £16,000 you probably won't qualify."

That money is to help you out whilst you look for a job not for a new sub & personal pleasure etc I expect they will take it into account.

If you have paid NI Contributions and have been made redundant from a job, you are entitled to 6 months contribution based Jobseekers Allowance. This is an entitlement and although it may be necessary to show Building Society or Bank Statements to prove your amount of Savings, you do not have to justify how or where you spent any of your savings.
Contribution Based Jobseekers Allowance is not "means tested", it is an entitlement for 6 months, providing you are actively seeking work, therefore if you choose to spend it on pink feathers and campagne, that is entirely up to you
