In the Apple store, they sell sim-free iphones right? Can I just pay the £279 or whatever and then put a pay as you go sim card in from any network (vodafone preferably) because if not then I'll ask for an iPod Touch for Crimbo instead

Depends if the iPhones are locked to a network and if they are can any mobile phone shops near you unlock them.

Only apple can tell you if theirs are locked.

i find it physicaly and mentaly impossible to find any urge to buy one

you know its going to be outdated in a year, but maybe im too tight on my money

this isn't just on iphones, im like this with ANY new technology released

e.g. HD tv's, cheap as chips now in the right places!

I did until I actually went into the store and used one. After that, I needed one :p but only if it isn't going to tie me to the stupid t mobile £35 per month contract.

I saw an advert last night for the iPhone on o2.

It said they are exclusive to o2 right now.

So it may be that the current available phones are locked to o2 only.

It won't take much to get them unlocked though surely?

Depends on how they are put together and if someone has developed the software and lead for it.

It is quite new remember and as it is Apples first phone there isn't a lead that unlockers already have.

For example Nokia's mostly use the same lead so new ones can be unlocked pretty quickly on release.

Well, Ive done some research, it is indeed exclusive to O2 and not T-Mobile like I said, and you can unlock it safely to any network, but you need to pay £40 to do it. There are some free methods available, but I'm not too sure I trust those. Anyway once I get it I might post with how I got on with unlocking it.
