...all the hobbits seem gay? Seriously, has anyone noticed this? People can spout all they want about "deep friendship" and "loyalty" and "bonds of warriors" but don't all the hobbits seem a bit TOO friendly?

When Bilbo blew the smoke ring, and Gandalf blew the ship through it,was that veiled h omo-erotic symbolism?Or just cutesy-pie magic tricks?

I love, LOVE this movie but, yes they do seem a bit on the uhmm not straight side. Cause I mean, okay so I know guys have deep friendships and what have you but never in my life have I ever seen two men gaze (yes gaze) at each other and profess their undying loyalty to each other *lmao* Sometimes when I watch one of the movies, and Sam and Frodo are like getting all in touch with their feelings, i get the sudden vision of them kissing weird huh?? *lmao*

Hey you are insulting us LOTR fans, i think they look gorgeous, with the exception of Bilbo. Yeah you can consider him gay if you want.

No, they don't. They are 'hobbits' and not 'people' and you are WRONG to assume that 'hobbits' have the same type and reasons for behavior as humans ... and if hobbits were 'real' then they would have the same 'percentage' of 'gays' to 'straights' and 'bisexuals' as humans do ... generally 10% are 'strictly gay', 10% are 'strictly heterosexual', and 80% are 'somewhere between the two.'

to quote Clerks II "They're not gay, they're hobbits."Now then, i don't understand peoples accusations that they are gay, have none of you read the books? Do none of you appreciate how Jackson actually kept the relationships between the hobbits as close to possible from the novels?Read the Hobbit, in it Tolkien explains hobbits quite fully through the development of Bilbo, and even in the movies the hobbits are very similar. The scene of Gandalf and Bilbo smoking pipeweed on his 111th birthday is to show that they are still friends, and even though a great deal of time has passed since the events of the Hobbit they are still able to sit down and smoke some pipeweed (which is not pot). I think the problem of people thinking the hobbits are gay is because for 4 hours the only dialogue from the hobbits is to other hobbits, with Sam and Frodo leaving to start their own journey in the Two Towers and Merry and Pippin being captured they only really talk to themselves / Treebeard. Its a little immature to focus on the lifestyle choices of fictional characters.

yes they are very affectionate, but it is supposed to be the basis for their community, they only have each other, they don't trade or deal with the outside, they have themselves and their family and the land. bonds grow tighter and friendships deeper.the hobbits were almost all related as well, merry and pippen were cousins and also related to frodo distantly.I have friends i consider closer to me than brothers, is it homosexual in any way? hell no! they are just the most important people in my life and i would fight and die for them.it is the same for the hobbits.it is a tough concept to understand, but there are customs and cultures that create tight bonds with others. it is not sex. it is love. if some one's mind corrupts that then they don't know what true love and friendship really is.for an outsider then I imagine it does seem "gay", so I pity the outsider.
