If you haven't ever run Linux then don't judge! Plus, it is cheaper, much cheaper than Mac OsX, which is after all only another port of X to x86!

I agree, XP has a lot going for it, Linux is the post M$ future, and OSX is an attempt by Apple to get on the Unix bandwagon. My remarks were aimed at the Mac supporters, not you.

Wikipedia says eXPerience, as in Windows Experience, I guess! Now I wonder what that could be! Sounds like a whole new thread, or maybe could it be the whole of TCF?

this is kinda become more of a Windows vs OSX thread......

but i like the customization ability of the PC... i likes my choices.

truthfully i don't have anywhere near enough mac experience to make a real decision.

PC:
upgrades
powerful
instant windows compatibility
long life span
can do video editing and graphics work
flexibility
decent performance overall if well constructed

Mac:
very limited upgrades
can be powerful
can last maybe 3-5 years max.
can have windows compatibility with correct software
more strictly for graphics related work such as photoshop or video editing
has very good gaming capability if it has good hardware

there's a reason the two ideals are competing. they have similar benefits. sometimes you just need to work in close proximity to a mac. you don't need to necessarily use it. you can do a very simple comparison by trying similar tasks and seeing what does the job better.

example. play an online MMORPG. like WoW. on a PC, your framerates will fluctuate drastically depending on the area and the intensity of the graphics, as well as the presence of other players and NPCs.

on a Mac, it maintains a very constant framerate, well above 30 frames per second. and it does so regardless of the actions being taken. very rarely does it fluctuate. and when it does, it is very minimal in comparison.

in the end, you pick whichever one suits you more closely. if you like the look and feel of a mac, buy one. they're mighty expensive for what they offer though.
