Hi guys. Im thinking of doing a course in IT. I have applied to do a course with an MCSE qualification at the end. The company providing the course also will assist in finding job roles along the way. The idea being as i learn the modules i will be gaining experience as well. The course is not cheap so i am very wary. The company seem to be makin a lot of promises to me.

Im just wondering has anyone gone down this route?
Is the MCSE qualification a desirable thing to have, with regards to finding a job in IT?
Also ive heard the uk government has some sort of regulatory body which lists the decent home training companies. Does anybody know about this?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry to burst the bubble but 90% of these courses with a guaranteed job at the end are scams.

I'd steer clear of anything promising a wage at the end.

I thought it sounded a bit too good to be true. I actually went for an interview and asked the guy straight. That i had my reservations and thats when he mentioned the governing board thing but i cant for the life of me remember what it was. Ive been searching but to no avail. The company was called Advent.

There actual policy was after 4 mnths when i have qualified for the MCP section they would help me find a less technical IT job to give me some experience. Then on completion of the course they assist in finding a more advanced role.

I dont understand how they could be allowed to say these things if it a scam.

What is my best route to get into this industry?

Ill just add as well i researched the companies in the the brochure that had taken on trainees through the company expecting them to be bogus, but suprisingly all were genuine companies(NS optimum, reapit, computime). Im half and half to be honest!

They say they will HELP you find a job.

The clues are in the vague terminology.

Best ways into this business are to get a trainee job or do a course and then get a job.

I'd just get a self study book and learn from that. That is what I am doing for the CompTIA A+ exam, going to take the exams after xmas :)

That's a good point.

If you currently have no qualifications start with the Comp TIA A+ exam and work up to a MCSE in the field you want to pursue.

I was also looking at the MCSE related courses after I messed up my A-levels, but instead decided to do a HND in computing which will lead me staight into uni after 2 years
