Hiya Guys,

Am after some help or views or even inside knowledge. I have been working in IT for about 5 years now in Support I also have a degree in Computer Science.

Now I have come to that part in my career where I want to learn to skills so i can go into a area where there are actually jobs that pay well; this has come about due to my wife having a baby and buying a house.

Any help would be great.

I am thinking of doing a course or part-time study.

I hear Computer Security is a great market to get into but it very hard as they require specfic experiance.

You are probably NOT going to like my comment and the usual asshats that dog me will give me hell but..............

If you want higher paying jobs, IE. management, they demand a good working use of the language (in your case I believe that would be English) that you use to communicate in. I'm really not trying to be a dick or the grammar Nazi, I'm just telling you what to expect. For instance..........

This site has spell checker, yet you ignored it in a few cases. To ME that shows a lack of attention to detail. If you sent ME a resume like what you typed here, I would put it in the little round file (trashcan), and move on to another, ESPECIALLY if it were for a computer job. I mean just damn bro, this site underlines all your misspellings in red. You can't see them? (well maybe not all I see a word spelled incorrectly in my last sentence and it isn't underlined). Well paying jobs are not for the illiterate. I know this sounds harsh, but you asked..........

Maybe in texting and such, no one gives a fat rat's ass about grammar, but in the business world folks do. I guess folks figure that if you can't master basic English, which presumably is your mother tongue, then how can you grasp higher concepts? ESPECIALLY when there are little red underliny things to show you your errors. It just shows a lack of concern. Do you understand now? I'm really NOT trying to be a dick, just trying to help a brother out............ I'm sure that some of the 15 year old geniuses that post here will dispute me, but..............

Thanks for you comments which have nothing to do with my question whatsoever.

I am sure this is an IT/Computer forum not an F****** English grammar one anyhow again thanks for your comments and screwing the thread up.

I can see your grammar is not great either!!!! You know the saying throwing stones and glass houses.

I will wait for you reply Mr Dick oh sorry I forgot your not trying to be one but you are one!!!!

No offense taken by the way

Good morning.

What kind of support do you do now?
Unlike the prevous post, you don't always have to be in Management.
You could try to be a IT consultant. There are many routes to a higher wage, without being in support and not in management

There are many courses and depends what kind of IT Consultant you want to be. If you were really good at one software, you could be a consultant, setting up and installing it.

Have you ever thought about going into project work? For example, creating domains, building and configuring the servers, installing and managing the servers.
If you wanted to do this, you could do CCNA(Networking skills) or Prince. However they can be costly.

I was thinking of doing CCNA a few months back but the course had already started.

Never heard of Prince but might look into that.

I wanted to get into IT Securtiy am hearing it is a good area to get into but also very hard.

What do you do; if you don't mind me asking?

It all depends on what you feel right doing.
Take a look on jobserver or cvjobs, look at the IT jobs and look what is out there. You can see how much the job is worth and what is needed.
