Default Should we invest more in public transport?

We all know that Global Warming is serious so should we invest more in public transport to reduce the Greenhouse effect?

We already have a perfectly adequate public transport system what we lack is the people with the brains to run it

I would use public transport more often if it actually went where I wanted to go when I wanted to go there but it never does. Also, it's too slow and unreliable. For example, I live about 25 miles from Stoke On Trent, to go by train, I have to switch trains and it takes about 2 hours, that's not including the time it takes to get to and from the stations. Whereas it only takes about 40 minutes to drive there.

Yes we should. Simplification of train fares is always good as is putting on more carriages at peak times. However, it will be necessary to build more track and order more rolling stock.

Yes,providing that buses, trains etc are properly cleaned and safely maintained, unlike most of them at the moment in U.K.Also the companies should be made to charge reasonable fares and run on time

How much you invest will probably have little effect on how much the system is used. Investing more in already underutilized systems would only be a waste of money.

Global Warming isn't caused by transports alone. And yes, if the public transport is not as crappy as it is now, I would seriously consider using public transport.

no.the roads are far too congested to make any difference.i believe the answer is a fixed monorail system linking the major citys only, and a conventional system from those jump off points.

Running trains and buses also produce greenhouse gases and unless they are nearly full most of the time, people driving fuel efficient cars will produce less. Since people use public transport mostly to avoid congested roads, extra investment in public transport will help only if it decreases travel time in congested areas.

You are right muts nut all public transit systems are mismanaged. Dumb guys with big salaries. The concept of public transit has never changed from the beginning. A radical change will have to take place in the next twenty years or the mess will just escalate. It must start now.
