Just been reading up on ocean currents and came across this.

Just to give some idea of scale apparantly the shot was taken out of one of the bridge windows.....which was 68ft above mean surface level. As you can see the wave crest is rather higher.

Wasn't even a storm, let alone a perfect one. Purely a rogue wave.

I served on this baby back in 1974 and when the waves suspended the ship in the middle it was time to twitch.
It doesn't take long to snap the spine.

There was a 24 hour bar with spirits at 4p a shot and 200 fags for 75p or if you smoked rolly you could get 6 x 2oz tins (no pouches then) for a £1

Thats quite a hench vessel! I'd love to do something like that, maybe just for a single voyage or something!! May panic slightly if confronted with a wave the same height as your usual London office block though!!

Weighing in at just under 73,000 tons Shroomo she was a fair size but not in comparison to the Super tankers that were around.
Sadly she was scrapped in 93 but I had the best time of my life then mate.
She was named Drupa, no smart comments please, as all Shell tankers were named after different types of Shells

nice, I didn't see Wolfeymole on the list of sailors though! Where it says Cargo: Crude, does that mean crude oil? If so thats one precious cargo! It might be a silly question... but isn't there a danger of pirates?

It did indeed mean Crude Oil mate.
Pirates are mainly found in the South China Seas these days and not the Spanish Main or as is popularly thought the carribean. :D
