Here in Georgia (US), and many other places in the south, the traditional New Years Day meal is blackeyed peas, collard greens, ham, and cornbread. "Eat poor on New Years, eat fat the rest of the year." The collards represent money, black eyed peas, luck, and the ham for progress and prosperity because the pig is the only animal that eats going forward. I have no idea what the cornbread is supposed to be for, but it sure tastes good slathered with butter and dipped in the pot likker (juice from the collards).

So what do YOU eat and why on for the New year?

NOTE: I'm off to cook, leave your address and I'll mail you some collards, black eyed peas, ham, and cornbread lol.

we dont do anything special for new years day meal. its not exactly uncommon for a lot of people to still be massively hung over. and when the hangover subsides then no body can be shagged cooking anyway.

it sounds like everyone i know hit the bottle 24/7 when i put like that.

The pig is the only animal that eats going forward? My dogs bowl slides forwards while she's eating on the wooden floor, that count? =P

Being 18 and lazier than your mind could possibly comprehend I eat just about anything. We don't have the 4th July celebrations in the UK so no special meal there. Chicken/Turkey (I forget which) at Christmas and nothing on New Years Day..
