Default What do you think of the smoking ban?

This may spark a bit of an argu... discussion!

I am a smoker, and I have no desire to quit in the near future, (yes, I no the health risks, who doesn't!)

My opinion: What was wrong with smoking and non-smoking sections? everyone was happy? I could go to the pub and smoke away (seeming as I don't drink it's really the only thing I can do in a pub!) and the people sitting having a meal would not be disturbed by it. Recently the NHS has put a smoking ban across all it's sites, this means that if I want a legal fag break, I would have to get changed out of uniform and leave the premises have a fag come back and get changed again! So what was a quick 5min job now is a 15min job. So now I have to hide round a corner and risk a disciplinary just for having a ciggie. Now I'm sorry but when i've been working for 12.5hrs with rude, arrogant and aggressive people, nothing in this world will stop me from sparking my fag!!! It's my opinion that it's gone a bit too far this time.

Im not going to argue with anyone, everyone is entitled to an opinion. So... what is yours?

I smoke too Kris and have done since roughly 17, I enjoy a cig especially when in the pub.
Now while we all must agree that while smoking is in fact detrimental to health, it should be down to the individual to smoke or not.
Arguments from both sides of the fence here
The lunacy of this supposed socialist government never ceases to amaze me and the sooner they are history the better.
I mean where is the logic in wanting to ban smoking (with a mild drug effect) to legalising canabis (with a mind numbing drug affect)? It's very stupid.
With New Labour which should be renamed to Extreme Right Wing Radicals perporting to be Socialists all they want to do is pour millions of our money into a bottomless pit with no results.

From the slightly irate Wolf.

Well i use to smoke, but i gave up. In wales the non-smoking ban came in april , i think, there was alot of uproar about it when it first came in, but now it is ok. Also the pubs and bars are alot nicer to be in.

Pubs are just turning into gloryfied cafes which is very sad.

I remember the days when pubs were segregated into different rooms, one being the Tap Room where women where not allowed in and the beer was cheaper than the main bar.

Women wouldn't be seen dead with a pint in their hand, in fact it was a rareity to see a woman in a pub at all on their own as they would have been labeled as having a low repute.

Food was non -existant unless you count crisps or pickled eggs.

When I started supping at 15 my local had stone flags on the floor in the Tap room, no carpet whatsoever.
It took a skilled man to rack a good score up on bar billiards.

Happy days, sigh.

I smoke and to me especially where it concerns the bars I say the owner should have been allowed to buy a smoking license almost like they would an alcohol license and then posted it.

I agree with it. The South of Ireland have a ban going for a few years now and bars, cafes and hotels are so fresh now. Most people thought it would be difficult to implement but now it's regarded as the norm.

Well not that it excuses me , but I smoke rollies which has just tobacco and paper and a filter. None of the benzine or carbon monoxide etc. (could be wrong with the monoxide?) Anyway, It just means I'll have to dress warm down the pub as I'll be sitting in the garden all night!
