We have a similar smoking ban here in my home state of Washington (US), and I have to admit it's a godsend. Not that I normally go in places with smoking anyways (i.e. bars and I'm 17 so that doesn't work out...), but in places like bowling allies we can go without losing 5% of our lung capacity :). I think smoking is considered worse in the US than the UK though, am I right?

In my opinion, I'm positive and for the smoking ban.

I tend to get dragged to pubs/bars with friends for socialising, etc. I don't drink or smoke, so get bored easily.

With others smoking inside, I feel like I'm trapped in a box and inhaling the smoke, rather discomforting.

Could always just go outside, but it's Scotland, as usual, cold and wet.

Same with cars, smoke in a confined space isn't nice. Oxygen begins to seem slightly thiner.

But it's 2007, time for change, and as humans, we're good at adapting.

Must be more eco-friendly. ;)

I will probably give up now, the only time I'm tempted to smoke these days is in pubs and clubs.

Its more a social thing or it's something to do while not dancing or while waiting at the bar.

You could always just ... play with your fingers. It's free. lol

Twiddle with them, to occupy yourself. :p

Or count how many empty glasses there are at the bar desk, I tend to do that ... slight OCD.

Talk to the bar guy, always nice to get to know him, since he'll be serving your drink.

If you're nice, he won't add so much ice cubes in your drink, thus, giving you more alcohol in the glass. ^^

Yeah the smoking ban came in in 2004 here I think!
As a smoker it was pretty crappy at the start, but now if you go to a pub the beer garden(outside-ish, aloud to smoke) it will be busier and fancier than the actual pub
And especially the nightclubs...wow, they have bars, sand floors, big heaters so it stays nice and warm, music and plenty of women, all outside this is which is legal lol
Quote:
Outdoor smoking areas

While smoking in an enclosed workplace is forbidden under the law, employers have discretion to provide an outdoor smoking area, subject to the requirements of the law.
The law has defined an outdoor area as:
A place or premises, or part of a place or premises, that is wholly uncovered by any roof, fixed or mobile.
An outdoor place or premises that is covered by a roof, so long as not more than 50% of the perimeter (outside) is covered by a wall, windows, gate or similar.
They have also stop selling 10 boxes, only 20's now
to try and stop younger people being able to afford them
A 20 box will set you back about 7:50EUR
