Default What a week I have had

Well what can I say about the week I have just had except I wished I could have crawled into a hole and stayed there for the rest of my life. This has what has gone wrong this past week.

1. The hoover packed up - not a major big deal but still

2. The toasted broke - ok, bad luck comes in 3's

3. The microwave starts making a really bad noise - that should be the end of my bad luck

4. My cars timing belt snaps - ouch, so much for the rule of 3

Thank good all is sorted now. Getting the hoover picked up and repaired under warranty, got a new toaster. The microwave must be special as it fixed itself (still giving it evil looks tho, lol) and I got my car back yesterday. New timing belt, new drive belt, new head gasket and a reconditioned cylinder head. (Garage wanted over £1000, good job I got a mate that is a fully qualified mechanic, picked my car up, done the repairs and brought it back to me for £350)

There is still light at the end of the tunnel!

Yikes. That sounds bad.

What a bugger for the timing belt to go, that really puts the car out of action.

I have had the car 3 months, only thing I forgot to ask was about the timing belt, asked every other possible question. Got it all fixed now, had a total overhaul of the engine done, all gaskets replaced, valves reseated, all belts replaced and all the timing done, engine should be good now for about 4 years until the next timing belt change

Depends on how you look at it, but I'd say you got lucky with the timingbelt issue... Spend about £1200 fixing up my Vectra last October because it needed a new gearbox and clutch. Was close to the cambelt change interval so I decided to get that one done in the process, along with some other bits and peaces.

Two months (and less that 2000 miles) after the cambelt was replaced, it snaps and takes the whole engine with it... Car was a complete write-off.

Default What a week I have had

I had a vectra a few years back, brought it with 2 years warranty, about 3 weeks after I brought it, it started cutting out while waiting at junctions, had a mate have a quick look at it and he said it was the head gasket on the way out, took the car back, they said it wasn't and was a problem with the air flow meter, I asked them if the head gasket went would they pick the car up and repair it to which they said "yes" 2 weeks later head gasket goes taking 14 out of the 16 valves with it and the garage said they would not replace or repair the engine. So I cancelled the direct debit for the payment agreement I had with them, got a phone call of them asking why I hadn't paid, guess what I told them, lol

warrenty should have covered that.
when we had a 1996 Discovery the electronics destroyed themselves, the power windows wouldnt work, neither would the remote and headlights, brake lights, indicators and hazards would come on at random times and sometimes not even turn on. the water pump also bit the dust. in the middle of the high country. the alternator when we were on the highway and that killed the damn electronically controlled engine.

we upgraded to a patrol about 3 years ago, and not a single problem.

Balls to that. Warranties are usually not worth the paper they are written on. Besides, with problems like that, if you are lucky enough the get the repair done under warrantie, it usually only covers the original problem (in this case the head gasket) but not the other consequential damage.
