An Amp just takes the input signal and amplifies it.

A Receiver is an Amp, witha built in Radio Tuner.

So neither would be best as such .... it would depend really on what you were after.

Both are good units, but it depends on what are you going to plug into it ? and what outputs has it got ? ... do they meet your needs ?

If it's just to form part of a HiFi set up, with 2 speakers and you dont need an FM Tuner or Video inputs, then the Amp is probably more adequate.
The Amp is quoted at 75 watts per channel RMS, but no figure is quoted on the Receiver, which I believe is more suited to a Home Cinema system.

Added to that the quality of your speakers will be a big factor on the output quality.
